Pride 2013

I attended Helsinki Pride 2013! I thought that since the Finnish Tahdon ("I do", goal is to allow the law of same-sex marriages) campaign is the hot topic at the moment, I want to show my support and take a part of the march. It was amazing how many people took part and how flashy the march was able to become!

I had lots of fun while marching and it was nice to meet so many friends and also some lovely new persons. I took plenty of pictures and I wish to share some here (actually, most are taken by my friend Anni who came to march with bf and me)!

The outfit of the day:
Dress: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
headbow: Angelic Pretty
knit: Alice and the Pirates
socks: Jane Marple
bag: Metamorphose
umbrella: Day

There were quite many lolitas! It was nice meeting Evanee, Momochuu and Akiko.

I also saw Elfie and her new dress!

She was giving out balloons. *-*

Dance show in Tuomiokirkko's stairs!

I received soooo many balloons! Sadly most of them flew away. </3

Starting the march!

Have a gay day everyone!

Met friends for tea and new apartment

Some days ago I had the pleasure of meeting up with friends. :) We went to the tea-shop Ounce, of course. I decided to be radical and taste a new tea, iced apple. It was delicious, I ended up buying some with me... :D

With Mari and Momo. Aki was kind and took our picture.

Dress, headdress, socks Angelic Pretty

I love this pendant! It's by Arrogant Alice. I would love to use it more often, but it matches with only few of my outfits.

So the partial reason we met was kind of a send-off. I moved to Turku! It's not that far from Helsinki, but still, there is quite a distance.

I arrived to my new apartment today. I mostly have been cleaning and trying to arrange my stuff, but I also went bicycling... And ended up getting lost.
I love the neighborhood my apartment is located, it's very peaceful and there are lots of gardens. Also animals! A wild squirrel attacked me today.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took of my room (it's a share so I didn't bother to take pictures from other places):

Notice Jörgen, my strawberry plushie I got as a present <3

It's so weird to have a closet with so little clothes... I'm planning to bring the lolita wardrobe a little later.

I got the lace curtains from my great-grandmother! :D

It's quite spacey. I'm planning to put some posters on the walls, they look so empty. And I would maybe like to have a flower of some kind! One that is easy to take care of.

The studies will start next week! I'm excited. :)

I attended Crème de la Garderobe shopping -event. We toured around in some small and adorable boutiques, lead by an amazing guide. The stores were selling vintage clothes, antique items and lovely furniture. I didn't really make any big purchases, but I'm going to definitely return to those boutiques.

After the tour we arrived to cafe Villipuutarha, enjoyed a brunch and listened some live music. A fashion show was part of the program and I was one of the models.

Mekko/dress: Angelic Pretty
Neule/knit: Alice and the Pirates
Dressu/headdress: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Sukat/socks: Juliette & Justine

Toivon saavani osallistua vastaavaan uudelleenkin.

The experience was extremely pleasant and personally organized. The boutiques, program, brunch and the overall spirit was something I haven't seen before in Finnish lolitacircles. I really hope to be able to attend Crème again.

Kuvista kiitos MadTeapartylle.

Would you like to have some tea?

So I had a day off from work and Erika and I decided to go and have some tea.

Venice Rose -black tea

We visited Ounce, lovely tea shop that's located in Fredrikinkatu, Helsinki. It's right behind Kamppi's shopping center so I recommend you to visit! They sell lovely tea and you can also enjoy few cups of it there. The atmosphere is just lovely and very relaxing and quiet.

We also did some shopping and I ended up buying a black cardigan from H&M. It's design is so simple that I didn't bother to take a picture. Instead, here's a pic of the outfit of the day!

Jacket and hat from H&M,
smaller bag from Angelic Pretty,
bigger bag from Juliette et Justine
other stuff mostly from Shibuya 109, Japan.
Oh, and shoes are from Ecco! xD

Chibicon 25.2.12

(Kuvan on ottanut Miika Ojamo.)

(Kuvat otti Emilia Lahtinen)

Asuuni kuului:

Mekko, panta, sukat, laukku Angelic Pretty,
kengät Yosuke,
paita Bodyline,
koru Arrogant Alice.

Interview with a lolita part 2

So, to the second part of the interview! I got even more carried away with explaining stuff, but this time I try not to spam you with so many pictures... Hope you enjoy the second part, one more part to go after this!

Please check my friend's who has made this interview blog Tabula rasa cum frame and livejournal.

Okay, now we know little bit better you and your style. The following questions are related to the Lolita style and the Lolita fashion here in Finland.

- How people, who don’t know much about Japanese street fashion or Lolita, can recognize Lolita (no matter what Lolita) from someone, who only is very girly?

Naturally lolita has a figure complitely it's own so it's easy to tell when one is inspired of lolita/is lolita. The first thing is and always will be is the petticoat. You just are not a lolita without one. But remember, it's definitely not enough to make you one.

- And how does Lolita stand out compared to others Japanese street fashion styles?

Lolita is elegant, stylish, neat, and I assume that lolitas also act like they truly are all that. I don't mean that lolitas should be some lifeless dolls, of course one can go (should go!) and have fun while wearing lolita. But I think that lolita is completely it's own thing compared to othes Japanese street styles, even compared to mori or otome.

- I like to say, “Sweet Lolita is sweet/cute, Gothic Lolita is mysterious, Classic Lolita is ageless and Erotic Lolita is a flirt“. Do you agreed that and why/why not?

Hm... To put it simple that definition would have to do. Of course there is a lot more behind those words, the styles in lolita are very protean and mixable. But when talking in general, I would have to agree.

Antique Beast's erololi inspired dresses

- As many persons have seen, Lolita has different style groups and subgroups. How people can tell, which Lolita is from the others, like Gothic and Classic Lolitas?

By the colouring, combining, the way one carries the dress, by the whole entirety. The make-up matters as does the hairdo. One can wear the same black velvet dress in gothic and classic styles, but when one wears those platform shoes, dark red lipstick, long eyelashes and has a black minicrown in one's head, one is definitely gothic.

- Which group is the most popular in Finland and what do you think is the reason for that?

I prefer not to speak out about this too much... I don't really think that we have any groups that would be something I'd die to join into or which inspire me in a way that makes me want to copy them. I don't think that there is one for me in Japan, Europe, or in USA.

- How do you think Finnish Lolitas stand out from Japanese Lolitas? How about then from Americans and other Europeans? Or Finnish Lolitas greatest “rivals” Swedish Lolitas?

Maybe European and American lolitas have more "rules" than Japanese. I don't find it very likely that Japanese lolitas even are aware of all the drama western lolitas are able to pull. The style is the same, but the circles and communities are so different. I myself am not very interested of stalking other lolitas I don't even know, so I won't comment more.

- How many Lolitas are in Finland? I guess that the most of them live in Helsinki and metropolitan areas.

I guess these questions can be answered in Finnish lolita forum Enfant Terrible. I think that there are surprisingly many lolitas in Finland. Most of them propably live in Helsinki and Tampere, but also northern Finland like Oulu. Actaually most of the meet-ups being held are in Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu and even Kuopio, but that's more likely because the most active meet-up-organizers live in those places.

- How have normal/not so into Japan and Japanese street fashion Finnish people reacted to your style? What have they said?

Well those who don't know me or my style usually know it has at least something to do with Japan. Sometimes I get lovely comments, like how beautiful and historical my clothes are and it's so great that someone dresses that way. Some elder people have told me that it reminds them of their youth. Those comments make me very happy and it's nice to hear them from random people. Unfortunately I have had to listen A LOT comments like "are you having a hen night?".

- What have been the nicest things they have said/done to you? And what have been the most unpleasant things?

The nicest thing... Well I was very flattered when we had a small meet-up with friends about a year ago and Jorma Uotinen (Finnish dancer/celebrity) saw us at a coffeehouse and came to tell us how lovely we looked.
He also gave us his autographs! XD

The most unpleasant things are when I get sexistic comments about my clothes. I hate every ageplay thoughts lolita wakes.

- How about those, who know Japanese street fashion and dress like some of them but are not Lolitas?

Hm. I guess that what the people who listen to j-rock and dress into visual kei inspired clothes/are just plain "j-rockers" and who don't actually know any lolita in person are kind of afraid of lolitas. Like we are evil bitches. Well, that might very much be true that lolitas act more mature in anime convention than 14-years old kids worshipping their... Wonder what they are worshipping. They are loud. And annoying. And I simply don't feel like hugging every kid who think I'm "kawaii desu lolita-chan" or stand their screaming. There, you see, we ARE evil!

But really now, I think that more mature people respect lolita as a lovely fashion and think that it's cute and pretty. I also love visual kei/dark kei and many other japanese street styles and I adore people who know how to carry them.

- What do you think Finnish people should learn about Lolita?

It's NOT ageplay and no, we are NOT having a hen night. And please ask a permission before taking pictures.

Next, I'd like to ask some details about you and Lolita. Here comes to “teaching/advising” part.

- What do you think is the important thing to remember when dressing Lolita? What should be avoided?

Like I mentioned before, petticoat is the thing that cannot be missed in lolita. Also, always pay attention to the quality of clothes!

- If someone wants to start Lolita style, what should she/he first do? How should one get started?

Buy the petti before anything else. JUST BUY IT. Then I recommend one to buy several blouses and skirts, not immediately a supersweetrufflelaceyheartypinkydreamydress. With few blouses and skirts it's possible to make many different combinations. Also, pay attention to your accessories! With them it's also possible to create totally different entireties. Simply go to H&M and buy yourself some pretty hair roses.

- What do you think it the worst mistake that a Lolita can make? Have you ever done it?

I can't mention it too many times: THE PETTI. But also, when not talking about the clothes, I think that the way one behaves when wearing lolita is very important. Please respect your clothes and behave with elegance. Remember that when you dress "differently" you are also giving an expression of the whole "difference". Represent lolita with thought!

- Which accessories do you like best in your Lolita? Which accessories do you like to see on the other Lolitas?

I love roses! I love them in my lolita and I love it when others wear them. Moitíé has many beautiful round headdresses that have roses in them, they are my favourites.

Wearing Moitié's headdress

Roses bought from "ordinary" stores
I also myself favour ribbons, bonnets and mini-hats. I actually just a while ago started to wear those old-fashioned headdresses.

And of course aristocrats are the most perfect accessories!

- What accessories do you think are the most ridiculous things you have ever seen and why?

Angelic Pretty Pullip/Dal/Byul dolls are simply idiotic. And I'm dying of getting AP Byul. ;__;

- Can you name/give some examples of accessories and dresses/brands to different Lolita groups?

Try wearing Yumetenbo's high heel shoes! I love my Deary's shoes so much...

The shoes have lovely hearts as their pumps
But worry not, they're not suitable only for sweet lolitas. I have some shoes from Yumetenbo I love to match with gothic styles.

There's cute lace on the sides of the shoes

These shoes have little ribbons on front
 - What advices do you like to give to the beginners?

Start slowly. You don't have to immediately get yourself a load of stuff. Always pay attention to the quality. Try to also sew or make handicrafts by yourself!  Do some research and don't be afraid of asking for help.

So here was the second part! The final part will be about my wardrobe. Thank you very much for reading this part! :)

Interview with a lolita part 1

So my friend decided to interview some of her lolita friends for her blog, and after seeing the questions I decided to also post the interview here in my blog! :) The interview will be posted in three parts, here is the number one. I deeply apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes I may have made.

The interview with a lolita

- What kind of style do you wear and how long have you dressed that way?

I am a lolita. My favourite lolita style is gothic, but I also enjoy wearing sweet, classic and many others. I have been wearing lolita for about five years now.

- How did you find out Japanese street fashion and Lolita-style? Why did you decide to try it?

I found out about japanese street fashions through music. I first got interested of some j-bands like Dir en grey, D'espairsRay and Malice Mizer. Thanks to MM I found Mana, and I could say that it's all thanks to him that I started to adore lolita fashion, especially gothic lolita. Later I found out that there were also other lolita styles, and mostly thanks to Finnish lolita forum Enfant Terrible my knowledge became deeper.
The reason why I wanted to wear it... Well, do I really need a reason for dollying myself up?

 - What did you parents and your friends say/think, when you started dressing this style? What are their reactions now?

As I was in the delicate age of 14 I was searching myself like any other did. I had some friends that were into gothic or punkish styles who supported my choice of style but naturally I also had some "normal" friends. They just thought my style as some gothic style and didn't really care about it.
I was dressing more or less gothic even before I was aware of lolita, so my parents were fine with the gothic style as long as it didn't get too over the top (like with make-up and such) but when I became interested of sweet lolita my father really didn't approve it, saying it was way too childish and that it didn't suit me at all. But still, they never told me that I shouldn't wear the clothes of my choice and I also guess that my mother was happy that I started to wear something other than black...

Nowadays, my friends are mostly representin the same styles that I love. I get compliments from tham, and it makes me very happy. My parents still find sweet lolita unsuitable, I am about to turn 20 after all, but they wouldn't dare to tell me to dress differently as I have made it very clear that I don't want to hear their opinions about my frilliest dresses.

- What do you think is the best thing about Lolita?

Propably the elegance of it... I love it how the dresses are so old-fashioned and luxorious. It makes me very happy when I wear something that makes me feel like I come from a different era. Also, I love the aesthetic senses that lolita brings within! Like how enjoyable a moment of drinking tea with friends in a coffeehouse might be.

 - Which genres of Lolita do you like/dress the most? Why them? Why not the others?

Gothic is my all-time-favourite. I love Moi-même-Moitié, it's simple yet luxorious beauty. Gothic style makes me feel pretty and elegant in a way no other clothes could ever make.
I also love sweet lolita, even if I don't always think that it suits me very well. Baby, the Stars Shine Bright is one of my favourite brands, especially when one can find classical elements from Baby's dresses. Also, with Baby there is this whole new and interesting world, such as Novala Takemoto's novel Kamikaze Girls. It may sound like a cliché for a lolita to say this, but Momoko and her way of seeing the world is very dear to me.

- What was your first outfit? (any photos?)

Hm... The dress that I once though was lolita would be lolita no longer in my eyes. Actually, there are several options. See for yourselves! Anyway, it was supposed to be gothic.

The very first actual lolita dress that I would even today wear was Anna House's JSK.

- How do you think your dressing way has shaped? (maybe some photos for you now)

Well naturally I was not immediately a good lolita or even recognizable lolita... I sometimes still think that I'm not good enough. Ah, this kind of question is indeed difficult to explain with words so it's chronological picturetime!

I tried to pick a picture from every season of every year I have been wearing lolita... Sorry for the ultimate picture spam.

- Can you name some brands or (role) models you like and why?

I guess I have already named quite a few, but let's name more!

The lolita brands that I also like are such as Innocent World, Victorian Maiden and Angelic Pretty. I love it how IW combines sweet and classic lolita. IW is the perfect example of what I try to obtain when I do sweet that is not Baby. However I love AP, but I wouldn't wear the most over the top styles. They wouldn't suit me. VM is amazingly beautiful and I adore lolitas who dress into it, but for some reason I myself don't. Wonder why?

The lolita idols... Well, more likely inspirations! To name few, I would have to say Kaya! I like his looks, style and I definitely love the Baby's dress he wore in Ophelia. Kaya's affection makes me feel good in more colourful and sweet styled clothes even though I love his gothic look.

Other inspiration would be GPK even if he is not a lolita or even anywhere near. The aesthetics he represents really have impressed me.

I have to admit that I have copied his style and hair outside lolita... Eh, even in lolita! Or should I say I have taken inspiration from him.

Thank you very much for reading the first part of the post. Hopefully I didn't bore anyone... Don't worry, the other parts will not be so long and I won't spam you with so many pictures anymore! XD
